Everyone who's tried to build in Muskoka knows how important it is to find the right contractor. After meeting a number of folks, some more professional than others, I landed on Brad Shortt.

My main reason for choosing Brad was that he's a straight-up individual who takes real pride in the work of his team. You should take the time to visit a few of the job sites of your prospective contractors and ask yourself how involved he is in the day-to-day activities of the project. Look closely at the workmanship, especially the minute details. I did, and it became apparent that Brad works closely with his guys to make sure it's done right.

He builds houses, cottages and boathouses the way they should be built - to last. He tells you exactly what things will cost and his prices are fair. Brad was not the cheapest quote I received and that's important. He was honest about the true cost of construction and took the time to explain the best way to build. Should you decide to make changes to your plans he's accommodating and you always know you're getting a fair price.

This may sound trivial but he's accessible on his cell and returns call promptly. I talked to him at least once a week over the duration of the project.

If you are after quality workmanship at a fair price and on schedule Brad is the guy. I think the best praise I can give him is to say that if I was to do the project all over again I would go with Brad in a heartbeat. Talk to him, look at the work he's done. I'm sure you'll come to the same conclusion.
